The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is pleased to announce two new appointments to its management team. Marie-Agnes Heine has joined to lead the Communication Department within the Stakeholders and Communication Division and Manuel Ortigão has joined as the new Head of Human Resources in the Administration Division.

Marie-Agnes Heine joins the Agency from the World Health OrganizationExternal link icon where she was a Communication Officer. In her role she developed and implemented targeted communication strategies and key strategic communication materials, advised senior management on communication needs, risks and challenges and tailored messages for different audiences and ensured broad outreach.

A German national, Marie-Agnes Heine has over 20 years of experience in media outlets (DeutschlandRadio) and international organizations (United Nations, International Organization for Migration, UN Commission on Information and Accountability for Women’s and Children’s Health) and a strong background in strategic communication, advocacy, media outreach and international public relations. Throughout her career Marie-Agnes Heine has lived and worked in Germany, Switzerland, France and the United States.

Manuel Ortigão joined the Agency on 18 August 2014 from the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working ConditionsExternal link icon (Eurofound), where he was a research manager working on projects related to work organisation and innovation, working time and implications for productivity, working conditions and industrial relations in the public sector, and national practices on information and consultation.

A Portuguese national, Manuel Ortigão has wide-ranging experience as a human resources specialist in various global companies (Hewlett-Packard, Unisys, PricewaterhouseCoopers, AIMS, Norconsult and Convergys). He has lived and worked in Portugal, Spain, the UK and Saudi Arabia, and has been responsible for human resources projects in Europe as well as in the Asia-Pacific region and North America.
