Peter O'Brien

After Peter's DVM training in Saskatchewan, he obtained his PhD in Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology in Minnesota, then his board certification in Veterinary Clinical Pathology in Guelph, where he served on faculty for 7 years. Peter was recruited into drug safety evaluation in 1995, first to Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati Ohio, then in 1997 to SmithKline Beecham - UK, and in 2001 to Pfizer at Sandwich. His experience has been in developing and managing state-of-the-art Clinical Pathology labs that provide biomarkers for Discovery and Pre-Clinical Development.  At Pfizer, Peter headed Discovery Toxicology Biomarkers labs for Safety Sciences – Europe and developed and validated mechanistic safety biomarkers to enhance preclinical confidence in safety, reduce attrition of drug candidates, and for use in preclinical and clinical monitoring. In late 2006 Peter returned to academia where he continues his work on translational safety biomarkers at University College Dublin. Here, in 2008 Peter established Advanced Diagnostics Laboratories, Ltd as a commercial spin-off lab to provide toxicology biomarkers service.
