Pall Corporation (NYSE:PLL) will introduce five new single-use products designed to improve bioprocessing efficiency at INTERPHEX 2012, which starts today at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City (booth #3021). The company’s latest technologies strengthen its portfolio of single-use solutions engineered to enhance workflow, increase flexibility and reduce the manufacturing footprint at critical stages of upstream and downstream processing, and formulation and filling. Also at the conference, Pall will present a technical workshop on single-use Tangential Flow Filtration, which advances the science of downstream processing. Pall is a global leader in filtration, separation and purification.

“Pall products for biopharmaceutical manufacturing play a central and pivotal role in fermentation, cell harvesting, product purification, testing and validation. With the new products we are introducing at INTERPHEX, Pall continues to deliver on our goal of providing engineered, single-use solutions for all phases of the biomanufacturing process, from upstream and downstream units of operation to formulation and filling,” said Hélène Pora, Vice President Single-use Systems.

New Single-Use Products for Biopharm Production and Processing

  • Allegro™ Bioprocessing Workstations provide maximum flexibility to help optimize unit operations in the pharmaceutical manufacturing process. Single-stack and modular multi-stack configurations are suited to a wide range of applications where fluid containment and ease of use are paramount, including on-site transport, materials handling, production and storage. With biocontainer trays and totes constructed of high-molecular-weight polyethylene (PE) easily configured on modular lightweight wheeled stainless steel frames, the Allegro bioprocessing workstations offer outstanding processing capabilities and superior wear resistance.
  • The Kleenpak™ Sterile Disconnector is the first device designed to maintain sterile integrity, even in cramped and uncontrolled environments, before and after separation of tubing. Its patented locking mechanism eliminates the risks associated with clamping and cutting, and requires no tools, calibration or maintenance. Disconnection is performed in less than 30 seconds, and sterility of the separate fluid paths is maintained throughout. The single-use Pall Kleenpak sterile disconnector facilitates secure fluid transfer, preserves product integrity, improves operator safety, and reduces product waste at all process stages of biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Originally introduced in ½-in. diameter, the Kleenpak sterile disconnector is now also available in ⅜ and ¼-in. sizes.
  • Allegro™ 3D Transportation Totes provide a fully integrated and flexible shipping solution for transportation of 100 L – 200 L Allegro single-use systems. The totes are tested to ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) standards and validated for secure containment. They can be used in any stage of the biomanufacturing process for transport of product or process fluids within or outside the manufacturing facility.
  • Allegro™ Plastic Totes provide robust support for fluid handling in 100 L, 200 L and 500 L single-use systems, while reducing the manufacturing footprint. They are specifically engineered for maximum flexibility in the processing environment, with stackable, maneuverable and collapsible features. Constructed of durable polypropylene (PP) plastic, they have broad chemical and high thermal resistance, making them appropriate for clean room utilization. They are suitable for a broad range of upstream and downstream applications, including buffer and media preparation and storage, bulk harvest storage, product pooling and bulk intermediate hold. They also are designed to optimize the self filling and self draining performance of Allegro single-use biocontainers.
  • Allegro™ Single-Use Filling Needles are a disposable solution for final filling applications. Constructed of Poly Ethyl Ether Ketone (PEEK), Allegro single-use needles eliminate the cost and labor of cleaning verification and validation associated with traditional stainless steel filling needles. They are easily integrated into new or existing filling lines and are compatible with most filling machines, and can be either autoclaved or gamma irradiated. They come with lumen diameters of 0.8, 1.6 and 3.2 mm.

“Pall’s new single-use products are based on our intimate understanding of the biomanufacturing environment. They are each specifically engineered to improve process efficiency and cost, expand flexibility, simplify operation and reduce the operating footprint, while delivering reliability, scalability and consistency,” said Hélène Pora, Vice President Single-use Systems.

Also at INTERPHEX, Engin Ayturk, Principal R&D Engineer, Pall Life Sciences, will present a technical workshop entitled Complex Single-Use Unit Operations: The Process and Economic Benefits. The workshop will compare single-use tangential flow filtration (SUTFF) to conventional stainless steel TFF. The workshop takes place today from 11:45 AM – 12:30 PM in room 1E10.
