Abbott has announced that it is streamlining its UK supply chain route for pharmaceuticals, nutritionals and diabetes products from 1 March 2011. To improve distribution of certain medicines, Abbott has selected three companies to partner in a reduced wholesaler distribution model to hospital pharmacies, community pharmacies and dispensing doctors in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The three wholesalers selected are AAH Pharmaceuticals Limited, Alliance Healthcare (Distribution) Limited and Phoenix Healthcare Distribution Limited.

In addition, a number of hospital products previously only available directly from Abbott are now also accessible from Phoenix Healthcare Distribution Ltd, providing customers with a choice of direct supply or the wholesaler route. Products are: Chirocaine, Klaricid IV, Sevoflurane & Zemplar.

Abbott is working closely with the appointed wholesalers to ensure a smooth transition to the new distribution arrangements.

A full list of the medicines which fall within this arrangement, together with a list of key Abbott contacts for pharmacists only can be found on the company’s website – www.abbott.co.uk.
