Cetraben® Ointment has launched for people with eczema and other dry skin conditions as part of the clinically effective Cetraben® product range, providing greater choice for prescribers and patients. Ideal for use at night-time or to complement emollient use during the day, 87% of users agreed it is ‘easy to use’ and indicated a preferred application, appearance and moisturising ability compared with three widely prescribed ointments.1 Users preferred how Cetraben® Ointment felt on their skin, its texture, colour and fragrance.

The 3-in-1 ointment, which can be used as an emollient, skin cleanser and bath additive, has a unique formulation and contains an optimal blend of paraffins to soften the skin and create a protective barrier for increased moisturisation. Cetraben® Ointment is free from parabens, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), fragrance and colouring and can be used by adults and children.  The ointment adds to the versatile and expanding emollient range of creams, lotions and bath oil from Cetraben® with the ointment suitable for when higher levels of hydration are required.

After one application, users agreed that Cetraben® Ointment left their skin feeling more moisturised and protected. In addition to being deemed more suitable than other products for dry and very dry skin, Cetraben® Ointment was considered a more acceptable option for everyday use.1

Deborah Platt, Specialist Dermatology Nurse states: “Emollient therapy plays a central part in eczema management and the availability of a full range of lotions, creams and ointments allows patients to adopt a suitable treatment regimen which fits their routine. Ointment use is particularly important for severe dry skin conditions and the introduction of Cetraben® Ointment is a welcome addition to our treatment options.”

Denika Fletcher, Brand Manager at Thornton & Ross says “As part of our ongoing commitment to more effective emollient use and improved adherence through the promotion of Complete Emollient Therapy, the availability of Cetraben® Ointment provides users with greater choice to help self-manage their problematic skin conditions to maximal effect. Cetraben® is one of the most widely prescribed emollients in the UK and we’re delighted to launch our uniquely formulated user-preferred ointment to offer added protection and hydration to further expand the range.”

Cetraben® Ointment has been designed to offer an optimally effective, versatile and cost-effective product to encourage and support adherence. With one in five children and one in 12 adults affected by eczema2, and each secondary care referral costing £1093, treatment adherence is critical to patient health and NHS cost-control. Dermatology guidelines recommend Complete Emollient Therapy (regular application of a combination of cream, lotion and ointment as well as the use of bath oil and emollient soap substitute) as the most important mainstay of treatment to provide maximal effect.4

The Cetraben® range from Thornton & Ross is suitable for people with dry, problematic and eczema-prone skin and helps to restore and repair the skin at all stages of the condition, helping to relieve discomfort and reduce the itch.
