Cellular Imaging and Analysis is undoubtedly one of the hottest topics in the field of pharmaceutical research and development. Technical or diagnostic progress made almost hourly, this multidisciplinary set of challenges and opportunities is proving one of the most profoundly effective in the history of science.

CIA09 is a FREE-to-attend conference that will cover many of the most important and challenging aspects of cellular imaging and analysis. European Pharmaceutical Review, along with Dr. Anthony Mitchell Davies of Trinity College and Chair of CIA09, have sought to produce an innovative, exciting and balanced agenda for anyone involved in high content analysis, cell biology and related fields. This conference will provide a unique opportunity to interact with fellow scientists from a wide range of research areas, industrial and academic:

  • Day 1 – Track 1: Cell Based Imaging and Analysis
  • Day 1 – Track 2: High Content Screening Setups and Strategies
  • Day 2 – Demos, Tutorials and Breakouts

Day 2 will allow for all the conference attendees to take part in a variety of tutorials and demos such as:

  • Standardisation in High Content Screening
  • Best laboratory practises in imaging
  • RNAi workshop (Global and Trinity)
  • Automation Integration demo
  • Hands on demos of all major and latest HCS platforms and imaging systems
  • Lab automation and integration demos

The show is sponsored by BD Biosciences, Perkin Elmer and Thermo Scientific who will supply equipment for all the tutorials. The use of the Institute of Molecular Medicines superb facilities will also be available.

Speakers

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Paul Andrews – University of Dundee: Advances in imaging and manipulating stem cells
  • Oscar Joe Trask – Duke University: Drug-like compounds using high content imaging approaches that rescue primary neurons in culture or ex plant brain slice tissue infected with genes that cause neurodegeneration diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s
  • Ed Ainscow – Astra Zeneca: Auto ex vivo imaging; “automated pathology”
  • Michael Boutros – DKFZ: Strategies for analysing multi-parametric data sets in HCS screens
  • David Egan – NKI: Setting up labs for RNAi screens/Sample storage and library and automation set-ups

Who should attend?

  • Biologists
  • Chemists
  • Analysts
  • Managers in discovery biology and drug development laboratories
  • Bioinformaticians
  • Statisticians
  • End users
  • Research institutes

The Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM)

The Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) is part of a groundbreaking research partnership in Molecular Medicine between Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Situated on the St James’s Hospital campus, IMM is dedicated to research into the molecular basis of human disease. This multidisciplinary research institute was completed in early 2003 and currently houses 19 research teams consisting of approximately 130 residents.
