Advances firm’s end-to-end drug manufacturing capabilities in the US, doubling the size of the existing facility at its Hillsboro, Oregon campus.

Roche’s Genentech is expanding operations at its campus in Hillsboro, Oregon, US through a new investment of approximately $750 million.
A new device fill-finish manufacturing facility will support production of advanced drug delivery devices, such as pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors. It adds capability for both high- and low-volume device filling and expands capacity for the firm’s future medicine pipeline.
Ashley Magargee, Genentech’s CEO, said: “We are proud to make this significant new investment in Hillsboro, building on nearly two decades of Genentech manufacturing in Oregon. Thanks to its skilled workforce and strong community, Hillsboro remains vital to our US operations.
“By adding end-to-end filling capabilities, this expansion deepens our commitment to manufacturing in the US and gives us the flexibility to support a growing pipeline.”

Supported by 250 specialised manufacturing jobs, the site is flexible to the changing manufacturing needs as the portfolio evolves. Since 2006, the Hillsboro campus has produced medicines for the company’s multiple therapeutic areas, such as oncology, immunology, and neurology.
Governor of Oregon, Tina Kotek, added: “Genentech’s decision to expand its campus in Hillsboro reflects Oregon’s strength in advanced manufacturing and innovation.
“This substantial investment will create hundreds of high-paying jobs, open new opportunities for Oregon workers, and strengthen Oregon’s growing leadership in the life sciences sector. We are proud to continue our partnership with Genentech as the company invests in its next chapter in Oregon.”
Operations are expected to commence in 2031.
Earlier this week, Genentech completed a key construction stage of its $2 billion manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina. The new plant is part of Roche and Genentech’s broader $50 billion investment in its US R&D and manufacturing operations. It is also Genentech’s first site on the East Coast and increases production volume and scale manufacturing capacity.
