EnteroBiotix has appointed Dr Murray Stewart, former Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at GSK, to its Board of Directors, strengthening the company’s clinical development and regulatory expertise as it progresses its microbiome therapeutic programme.

Dr Stewart brings extensive experience in global drug development, having also served as CMO at Rhythm Pharmaceuticals and Head of Research and Development at Novelion Therapeutics. At GSK, he held responsibility for patient safety across its pharmaceutical, vaccine and consumer healthcare businesses, alongside leadership roles in cardiovascular and metabolic research and development.

During his time at Rhythm Pharmaceuticals, Dr Stewart led efforts to secure the first US and European approvals of IMCIVREE® (setmelanotide), a treatment for certain rare genetic diseases of obesity.

His appointment comes as EnteroBiotix advances EBX-102-02 through its Phase 2b RISE study in patients with moderate-to-severe IBS-C. The randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial is expected to enrol approximately 300 patients and will assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of the investigational oral microbiome therapeutic.

The study builds on findings from the company’s Phase 2a TrIuMPH trial, with EnteroBiotix preparing for subsequent Phase 3 development.

Dr James McIlroy, Founder and CEO of EnteroBiotix, said “Murray has direct experience of the decisions that turn promising clinical programmes into approved medicines. That experience is particularly valuable as we deliver RISE and prepare the next stage of development for EBX-102-02.”
