The 14th Annual Meeting of the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities – Application and Optimisation of Existing and Emerging Biotechnologies

The ABRF 2009 meeting will present the latest developments in life science technologies and the use of these technologies. Leaders in the field will give presentations including scientific sessions and technical workshops on genomics, proteomics, imaging, and other technologies such as next generation sequencing, genotyping, microarrays, real-time PCR, proteomics and mass spectrometry, protein production, optical imaging, bioinformatics and bio-IT. Participants will be able to interact with an array of vendors in the exhibit hall and in exhibitor workshops.

There will be keynote presentations by leaders in the field of genomics and proteomics. Additionally, there will be a special keynote presentation given by a leader in the field of applying advanced biotechnology in evolutionary biology, in recognition of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth in February 2009 and the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species.

The ABRF Award will be presented at the ABRF 2009 meeting and the awardee will give a lecture at the meeting. This year’s winner is Mathias Uhlen of the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. Dr. Uhlen has made pioneering contributions to multiple areas, including Staph. Protein A, affinity purification technology, DNA pyrosequencing, and the human protein atlas. Previous winners include Roger Tsien, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2008 and Edwin Southern.

The Memphis Cook Convention Centre is located downtown in the heart of the city of Memphis, Tennessee. Downtown attractions include Memphis blues clubs and museums. ABRF 2009 will kick off with an evening welcome reception between 7-9pm on 7 February and will end with an evening Closing Social between 7-10pm on 10 February, hosted by Intel. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided during every day of the event.
