Pittcon, the world’s leading annual conference and exposition for laboratory science, will be held February 26 through March 1, 2018, in Orlando, Florida, at the Orange County Convention Center. The exposition will take place Tuesday, February 27 to March 1.

This dynamic event offers a robust program with more than 130 technical presentations covering topics in drug discovery and pharmaceutical science.

Presenters will include leading researchers from industry labs such as AstraZeneca, Bristol-Myers-Squibb, Eli Lilly, GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer. to name a few.

The following is a sample of the symposia that will be offered:

  • Precompetitive Collaboration on Enabling Technologies for Pharmaceutical Research and Development
  • Automation in the Pharmaceutical Research and Development Laboratory
  • MS Based High-Throughput Screening for Drug Discovery
  • Recent Advances in Two-Dimensional Liquid Chromatography Separations
  • Next Generation Separations Technology and Chemistry
  • Label-Free Methods for High-Throughput Screening

One of the highlights of this year’s technical program is the Wallace H. Coulter Lecture, “Analytical Science in Precision Medicine: Facing the Challenges of the 21st Century Healthcare” which will be presented by Professor Jeremy Nicholson, Head of the Department of Surgery and Cancer and Director of the MRC-NIHR National Phenome Centre Faculty of Medicine

A Plenary Lecture, “Optical Microscopy: The Resolution Revolution,” presented by Dr. Stefan Hell, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen and Director at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg, will be added to this year’s program.

Attending Pittcon affords a once-a-year chance to get a first-hand look at products, services, chemicals and ancillary items used the research, development and testing of pharmaceutical products. Evaluate and compare equipment used in pharmaceuticals such as high throughput screening systems, incubators, centrifuges, freeze dryers, spectrophotometers, biomolecule analysis instruments, chillers, measuring instruments, and heating/cooling systems autoclaves and much more.

The following is a sample of a few of the leading companies who manufacture equipment for the pharmaceutical industry who will be exhibiting at Pittcon:

  • Chromatography Research
  • Eberbach Corporation
  • Enviroflow
  • HMP Mikrosystemme GmbH
  • MilliporeSigma
  • Phenomenex
  • Radwag USA
  • Thermo-Fisher
  • Waters Corporation

Live Demos are scheduled in designated areas on the exposition floor and will offer scheduled 15-20 minute interactive product demonstrations by leading exhibitors. These sessions will also give attendees an opportunity to engage technical experts in question and answer sessions.

New this year on the exposition floor are the Nexus I and II theaters. These theaters will offer live presentations on a wide range of topics that will engage, entertain and inform. Each session will be conducted in an informal theater setting to facilitate questions and audience participation.

A unique networking opportunity are the Conferee Networking Sessions where conferees meet to discuss topics of interest. The following are several of these covering topics of interest in drug discovery and pharmaceutical science.

  • Analytical Challenges in Extractables and Leachables Analysis
  • Challenges in Dissolution Testing
  • Expediting Method Development in Pharma Medical Writing

Another educational aspect to the Conference are the affordable skill-building Short Courses (Feb. 24-March 1)) where participants will learn new techniques to improve job productivity. Classes, taught by leading professionals who are experts in pharmaceutical research or industry, are available at various levels and durations.

There are 40+ courses covering topics discussing techniques, analysis, regulations and best practices for pharmaceutical science. The following is a sample of a few of the courses:

  • HPLC/UHPLC for Practicing Scientists 2: Method Development, troubleshooting and Biopharmaceutical Applications
  • Practical LC-MS Method Development for Small Molecule Pharmaceuticals
  • FDA’s Update on Elemental Impurities According to the new ICH Q3D and USP 232/233 Guidelines – Are you ready?
  • A Practical Guide to the New Global Guidelines on Elemental Impurities and Analytical Procedures for Pharmaceutical Materials and  Dietary Supplements

The Pittcon 2018 mobile app is available for free download for iOS and Android mobile devices. The app is designed to help attendees manage and organise and the users can create a customisable agenda that syncs across all devices.

The registration fee is only $190 ($325 after February 5) and entitles a conferee to unlimited week-long access to the expo floor, technical presentations and event amenities. New this year, is the $100 Expo Pass which allows conferees unlimited access to only the exposition floor.
